Snowdon Fire Fighter Charity donations ascend to £2311.65

12th September 2025

On Sunday, 7 September, colleagues from our Leek Derby Street branch and firefighters from Leek Fire Station braved the elements to climb Snowdon in support of an amazing cause. Their efforts helped raise a mountainous donation of over £2,000 for the fantastic Fire Fighters Charity.

Leek Building Society colleagues reach new heights

A total of 31 participants completed the Llanberis Path and climbed Snowdon. Of the 31, 10 colleagues from our Society were accompanied on the climb by members of Leek Fire Station and the local fire station in Llanberis.

Just like in a real situation, the firefighters completed the climb wearing their wildfire gear as well as each carrying 21kg of kit, water and supplies.

Together, the group completed the climb, battling through rain, hail, wind and sun to raise money and awareness of the amazing Fire Fighters charity.

“I’m really proud of my team and what we’ve achieved with this event whilst raising an amazing amount of money for such a worthy cause.”

• Dan - Leek Derby Street branch manager

How the donations climbed to over £2,000

Our Leek Derby Street branch ran a £50 hamper raffle from 5 August until 7 September to raise funds for the Fire Fighters Charity.

Generous members of the community purchased raffle tickets for just £1 and played a huge part in helping the donations reach the peak of £2311.65

Along with raising, our Derby Street branch took the opportunity to help the local community understand the importance of fire safety.

Partnering with firefighters from Staffordshire Fire & Rescue Service, the branch hosted three fire safety Q&As. These sessions, on the 15 and 29 August and 5 September, allowed the local community to ask any questions they had and learn from the brave firefighters who put their lives on the line for our safety.

Those who attended these Q&As were welcomed to donate to the Fire Fighters Charity, helping us reach the heights of the X we received.

The Firefighter’s Charity supports firefighters to stay fit and well in order to continue to do the job, or as a source of care, help and rehabilitation when challenges arise.  The Leek Fire and Rescue Service were honoured that this service was chosen by Leek Building Society as their charity of choice this year.  The support shown to the campaign and the dedication given to the endeavour of climbing Snowdon as part of this have been both inspiring and impressive.

On behalf of the Fire Fighters Charity, we would like to thank all who have joined in this effort and achievement, as well as all who have donated to the campaign.  The money raised will be gratefully received by the charity and will be invaluable in supporting those accessing the service.

How the donations will impact the Fire Fighters Charity

Our fire and rescue services are always there for us when we need them, helping us at the lowest and most terrifying moments of our lives. However, to support us, they need to be physically and mentally well, at work and at home.

The Fire Fighters Charity acts as a dedicated health and wellbeing companion, supporting every aspect of a firefighter’s life, ensuring they can be there for you when you need them.

Supporting a diverse community of around 300,000 people, the charity provides timely clinical care and wellbeing support to members of the UK’s fire services and their families. Offering a range of over-the-phone, online and in-person services, the charity helps people adapt to physical, emotional and social challenges as well as supporting people adapt to health conditions, illnesses and injuries.

The Fire Fighters Charity has been delivering their incredible services since the Second World War.  With the awareness and money raised from the Snowdon climb, the charity will have the additional funding to provide even more support to those in need, allowing people to live healthier and happier lives.

A mountainous effort by everyone involved

We’d like to give a huge well done to our colleagues and firefighters from Leek Fire Station for braving the elements and taking part in the climb for a worthy cause. We’d also like to send a big thank you to everyone who donated; your money is going towards a fantastic charity.
