How our Affinity Savings Accounts make a difference

19th December 2024
Affinity accounts

This year, thanks to the savings habits of our affinity account holders, we’ve been able to make some significant donations to local charities and community organisations. Over £18,000 has been donated to three worthy causes: East Cheshire Hospice, Totally Locally Leek, and County Air Ambulance.

Our affinity savings accounts are more than just a way to grow your savings. By opening one of these accounts, you’re contributing to positively impacting local causes that truly matter, while earning interest on your savings.

Supporting local organisations

East Cheshire Hospice, a vital local charity providing care and support to patients and their families with life-limiting illnesses, received a donation of over £2,300. This funding will help the hospice to continue its invaluable work in the community, helping its patients and their families navigate a life-threatening condition.

Luke Oldham, Corporate Fundraiser at East Cheshire Hospice, expressed the importance donations such as this can make:

"The support of Leek Building Society means the world to all our patients and staff. It allows us to help our patients and their families when they need it most and reach new supporters."

Totally Locally, an organisation dedicated to supporting local businesses and encouraging sustainable shopping practices, received a donation of £600. This contribution will enable Totally Locally to promote local businesses which helps strengthen the local economy.

Lynn and Jonathan from Totally Locally said,

"This donation will enable us to develop and print more of the Totally Locally Leek Town Maps which help highlight local independent shops, pubs and cafes to visitors and tourists. It'll also fund more online marketing and help to sponsor the children’s entertainment at the Sunday Supplement Christmas markets in December."

County Air Ambulance, which provides essential emergency air medical services across the region, received a substantial donation of over £15,000. This funding will help the air ambulance team continue to save lives by providing rapid response to medical emergencies.

Lesley Obee from the County Air Ambulance Trust HELP Appeal said,

"On behalf of the HELP Appeal, we extend our deepest gratitude for this generous donation, which will support the development of hospital helipads, critical care vehicles, and the procurement of vital medical equipment. These critical resources are essential for improving emergency care and ensuring that timely, life-saving treatment is provided to patients in critical need. Leek Building Society’s donation is helping to save lives, and we are incredibly grateful.”

To substantiate the positive difference we’re able to make to these local organisations through the support of our members, is our Savings Product Manager, Hannah Eastlake, who said:

"We’re incredibly proud of the impact our affinity account holders have made on these vital local organisations. By choosing to save with our affinity accounts, our members are directly contributing to the wellbeing of our community."
